NPD Solarbuzz‘s latest emerging solar market Asia-Pacific and Central Asia report that it is expected that the demand for solar power in emerging Asia-Pacific and Central Asia will exceed 3GW by 2017. Compared with the demand of 723MW in 2012, the growth rate is very strong, with a compound annual growth rate of 28%. %.
“In the past, solar energy applications in Asia Pacific and Central Asia were mainly concentrated in solar lighting and residential,” said Ng Qiming, an analyst at NPD Solarbuzz. “But future solar demand will come from the widespread use of large ground power stations. By 2017, ground-based installations The number will account for 64% of total solar power generation in Asia Pacific and Central Asia."
Demand for solar power in Asia Pacific and Central Asia remains highly fragmented and similar to other emerging solar markets, with diverse policies and end-market drivers. As Southeast Asia is widely regarded as the central hub for upstream manufacturing of the solar industry, policy makers have a deeper understanding of solar power generation, so they have also learned from the mature experience of European PV market policy development in the policy formulation process.
Solar energy demand in Asia Pacific and Central Asia is mainly from Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan. From 2013 to 2017, solar energy demand in these five countries is expected to account for 50% of total demand.
Thailand is expected to be the largest single market in the region, driven by rapid growth in electricity demand and fiscal pressure to reduce energy imports.
Indonesia has a long-term solar power generation plan, which is expected to increase solar power generation to 0.3% of energy by 2025, and about 1 GW of new solar energy demand. With the upcoming on-grid tariff, Indonesia will become the second largest in Southeast Asia by 2017. Solar market; Taiwan and South Korea also make solar power a priority for renewable energy targets.
In the coming years, more countries in Asia Pacific and Central Asia will increase their demand for solar energy. The Philippines announced more than 500MW of solar installations at the end of 2012, mainly from strong investments in Japan and South Korea; Bangladesh is already the world‘s largest off-grid solar market, and plans to add one million solar power systems by the end of 2016. Installation; Kazakhstan plans to install a 77MW solar power plant in the next few years; Pakistan also announced that it will deploy 500MW of solar power.
“Although ensuring adequate solar power project financing is still a challenge, the overall solar power demand in Asia Pacific and Central Asia is expected to account for 5% of the global 5% in 2017, reaching 5GW.” Han Qiming added.
